Most mid-sized and large companies are organized by function: each department does one kind of work for the whole company. The CEO sits at the top, the executives who run each function report to the CEO, and each function has its own layers of managers and teams.

- Departments: finance, operations, sales, marketing, human resources, IT, legal.
- Managers and teams within each department, often two or three layers deep.
One page or several
